Adventures in Michigan: Historical Town and Underwater Springs

On our second day in Michigan, My Aunt and Uncle-in-laws took us to on an interesting adventure.

The first stop on our adventure was Fayette Historical Townsite. Fayette was once a bustling industrial community that manufactured charcoal pig iron between 1867-1891. Fayette offers visitors the unmatched serenity of a Lake Michigan Harbor, white dolomite bluffs and verdant forests. This community is now a well-preserved museum village that recalls another time when it was a noisy, dirty company town with an immigrant population that shred daily hardships, joys and sorrows.

After a stop for lunch we headed to our second stop on our adventure. We headed to the Legendary Kitch-iti-kipi (Big Spring). Kitch-iti-kipi is Michigan’s largest spring at two hundred feet across and forty feet deep. Each minute over 16,000 gallons of water gush from fissures in the underlying limestone and this flow continues throughout the year at a constant temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit. By means of a covered self operated observation raft, we were given a vantage points overlooking fascinating underwater features and fantasies.
