Read For The Record Coming Soon

As an educator, reading is important to me. That is way as a mom, I try to encourage my child to read and to make it fun for him. A love for reading that is started young will continue to grow as he grows.

Back in 2008, I found this amazing organization called Jumpstart. Jumpstart is a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. Jumpstart delivers a research-based and cost-effective program by training college students and community volunteers to serve preschool-age children in low-income neighborhoods. Through a proven curriculum, these children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for school, setting them on a path for lifelong success. Jumpstart is a proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network. Learn more at jstart.org.

Jumpstart's Read for the Record, presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, is a campaign that brings together millions of Americans to celebrate literacy by breaking the world record for reading the same book on the same day. This year, October 3 is the official Read for the Record day. Your participation is symbolic of your support of Jumpstart’s mission: to work towards the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. In 2012, 2.3 million people participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record.

This year’s campaign book is Otis by Loren Long.

Each year, Jumpstart enlists the help of a Celebrity Ambassador. Tiffani Thiessen, is the official celebrity ambassador of the 2013 Read for the Record campaign. As ambassador, Thiessen will support the campaign by bringing awareness to the early childhood education crisis in America and Jumpstart’s solution to this critical issue by preparing children living in low-income communities to enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed.

Reading for the Record is a reading tradition that I started back in 2008 with my son. I have already pledged to read for the record this year. Will you join me?
