Adventures as a Behavior Interventionist

Each day that I spend in training the more excited I get about starting my new adventure as a Behavior Interventionist. I love working with children and I have a special place in my heart for kids with special needs.

The reason I chosen to work in the field of special education is because I want to impact their lives and make significant impact on the world around them. This new adventure gives me the opportunity to work with kids that have Autism.

Autism is a rapidly growing field, which makes it the current public health crisis in the US. The current diagnosis prevalence is 1 in 88. Easter Seal Southern California is one of many ABA-based intervention service. For those that don't know ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis.

Since July 1, 2012, when legislation passed an insurance mandate that states the Insurance companies must now provide Autism services. Due to this mandate, Easter Seals and other invention services have seen rapid growth.

The world in my opinion the field of ABA is interesting and exciting because it is a behavior field that that works with typically developing children as well as children with Autism and special needs. The field of behavior is so wide and there is so mucho to learn.

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing some information with you. I want to let you know in advance that I will try to share information in friendly terms and not in medical jargon. The things that I will share will be strategies that you can use with typically developing children. Please feel free to ask questions if you are unsure about anything or would like some advice.

  7. Wow, this post comes at a timely, um, time, for me! I, too, have a degree in special education, but have been unable to find a job. After a really bad experience working as an aide last year, I decided to take some more classes to get my early childhood approval... but in the meanwhile, I'm still looking for a job. Saw a job for a behavioral interventionist on Craigslist, and I responded to the ad, so we'll see what happens. I am definitely going to follow your blog so I can read more about your experiences! Happy SITS day by the way.
